Australian Dean Morrison owned the first round of the ASP World Tour event. Morrisons shredding earned him the highest score of the day, a nine out of 10, and a combined 17 out of 20. A Lange & Sohne Watch Three-time ASP champ Andy Irons, taking the year off from the tour but accepting a wild card at Teahupoo, made quick work Brazilian Jihad Khodr. Irons scored an 8.67 in round one and will face 2008 ASP World Tour runner-up Bede Durbidge in the second.
“The win feels good,” Irons said. “It’s been four months since I put a jersey on and it still fits. Surfing fun-sized Teahupoo with one other guy out, there are no complaints.
